A beautiful girl! A dangerous mission!
A Brit (Robert Donat) who happens to be fluent in both Rumanian and German -- and a top-notch chemist into the bargain -- is sent behind enemy lines to destroy a poison gas factory. Starts off as a credible spy thriller, with the Nazis really earning audience hatred, then morphs into a James Bond-style fantasia, complete with an enormous secret underground factory and an overdone superweapon. But no hollow volcano. Thoroughly entertaining.

Subject: Good spying film featuring Robert Donat
Good script, featuring numerous twists and turns and several nail-biting moments. Well done on an obviously limited limited budget, as attested by the odd presence of cars with the steering wheel on the right-hand side in nazi-occupied Czekoslovakia. Suspension of disbelief is more required towards the end, where chemical engineer Tartu turns out to be a deadly marksman pretty much out of the blue.
Still, it's thoroughly entertaining and it's nice to see Robert Donat, from The 39 Steps, in action again. Reviewer: billbarstad - - October 28, 2009
Subject: 1940s spy movie
This is worth watching just to see Glynis Johns in a dramatic role. I remembered her only from 1960s comedies. Forewarned is forearmed, so prepared for a spy fantasy, I enjoyed the movie, though I doubt I'll watch it again. Robert Donat, who was great in The 39 Steps, does OK here.
