Virus (Fukkatsu), literally Day of Resurrection is a 1980 post-apocalyptic science fiction movie directed by Kinji Fukasaku and based on a novel written by Sakyo Komatsu. The movie starred Masao Kusakari, George Kennedy, Robert Vaughn, Chuck Connors, Olivia Hussey, Edward James Olmos, Ken Ogata, Sonny Chiba and Glenn Ford. A very dreamlike story indeed. Not so far from "Carnival of Souls" or Orson Welles' "Trial".
John Parker was only the producer. Co-star Bruno VeSota is suspected to have been the real author of this treat.

I know for a fact that this film was condemed by the Catholic Leigon of Decency when it came out.
This was also the movie that was playing in the theater in the movie THE BLOB before it attacked. |

Subject: Very Good Film...
Great cast in a very good film. Frederick March & Florence Eldridge head the cast...and were married in real life. Edmund O'Brien always competent. John McIntire EXCELLENT as the Judge ! And a special note about the beautiful Geraldine Brooks: She was just superb as the Daughter of March & Eldridge, showing the spark and talent that shone in ALL of her Stage, Film, and later, TV Roles. In fact, during the 50's, 60's, and, 70's she was a TV Staple appearing almost every week on some Series & Network ! Sadly she died of a heart attack while battling cancer in 1977...at the young age of 51. SPOILER ALERT: During the last 10 Minutes of the film it turns extremely melodramatic, BUT you have to realize the time-period in which it was produced...1948. March was a 2 Time Academy Award winner, and had just received one of those Oscar's a year earlier for "The Best Years Of Our Lives". And, his performance is solid, even if the character is written a bit "stiff". Stick with it to the end and you WILL be rewarded. Reviewer: porterville - - May 20, 2011
Subject: Fredric March and Florence Eldredge Excellent in "An Act of Murder"
This may be the finest movie yet that I have viewed on the Internet Archive. The topic of a terminal illness and possible euthanasia is forcefully presented in this drama. The acting is top-notch with leads Fredric March, Florence Eldredge (March's real life spouse), Edmond O'Brien, and Geraldine Brooks. The viewer should not take "any breaks" from the viewing as missing a few minutes just after the first 60 minutes will lead to confusion as to what later happens. A very powerful and forceful film. |
